The government is set to launch a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging fishers, fish farmers, and other eligible stakeholders to register themselves and avail of various benefits. Organized by the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, the campaign will run from February 14th to 22nd, 2025.
The initiative aims to promote registrations on the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) and expedite approval processes. It will mobilize applications from eligible stakeholders to benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PMMKSSY).
Collaborating with State/UT Fisheries Departments, the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), and Common Service Centers (CSCs), the campaign will set up registration camps in key fisheries hotspots nationwide. These efforts aim to streamline the registration process, increase approval rates, and encourage stakeholders to access benefits under PMMKSSY.
Benefits include credit facilitation, aquaculture insurance, and performance grants. PMMKSSY, a central sector sub-scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) with an allocation of Rs 6,000 crore, has been operational since 2023-2024.
Its primary objectives include formalizing the fisheries sector, enhancing access to institutional finance, promoting aquaculture insurance, improving value chain efficiencies, and strengthening fish safety and quality assurance systems. The scheme aims to build a resilient and sustainable fisheries sector, thereby improving livelihoods for fishers and fish farmers.
A cornerstone of PMMKSSY is the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP), facilitating the registration of fishers, fish farmers, vendors, processors, and microenterprises into formal financial systems and government programs. To date, the platform has garnered over 17 lakh registrations.
Eligible stakeholders can register at camps set up across various locations in states and UTs.
