E-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) is mandatory for ration card holders. Despite repeated reminders, millions of subsidised ration beneficiaries have failed to complete their E-KYC. The latest deadline extension comes as a relief for those who are yet to complete the formalities. Now, beneficiaries can update their e-KYC until March 31, 2025. The earlier deadline for the same was December 31, 2024.
Under the national food security scheme, economically weaker sections of the society receive subsidised ration such as wheat, rice, pulses, and sugar are distributed through fair price shops. A valid ration card is all it takes to access this scheme. However, to combat rampant fraud and leakage, the government instituted mandatory e-KYC for all beneficiaries. Only those who update their details can continue to avail subsidised ration from Public Distribution System (PDS) centers beyond March 31, 2025.
E-KYC Process Details
The process requires ration card holders and all listed family members to link their ration card and Aadhaar card via biometric authentication.
This will eliminate duplication, identify the number of beneficiaries and ensure that subsidies reach only those who are eligible.
The process is digital, secure, and straightforward. However, timely updation is necessary for continued access to the scheme.
