The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and the onset of monsoon within the next 24 hours. The alert covers North Delhi, Central Delhi, South West Delhi, Shahdara, East Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and other surrounding areas.
A yellow alert is the lowest level of warning but serves to inform the public about potentially adverse weather conditions. It may lead to traffic congestion, slippery roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and temporary disruptions in daily life.
The sky will remain generally cloudy, with isolated areas likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. Rain is also expected in Noida and Gurgaon, with Delhi likely to witness the monsoon’s arrival within 24 hours, according to the IMD.
On the temperature front, no heatwave conditions are expected today. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 33–35°C, while the minimum may range from 26–28°C.
Elsewhere in the country, yellow warnings have also been issued for East and West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and West Rajasthan. Orange alerts, which signal more severe weather, are in place for Uttarakhand, Punjab, and East Rajasthan.
In the southern region, monsoon rains have intensified in Kerala, flooding parts of Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur, prompting an orange alert there. Chandigarh recorded its earliest monsoon onset since 2021 earlier this week.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Interior Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad.
