The 15-day “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan”organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was successfully concluded on June 12. Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, lauded the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ as a landmark initiative driving India towards agricultural transformation. He emphasized that this campaign is not a one-time effort, but a continuous, grassroots movement rooted in direct field-level engagement.

Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is working closely with state governments to uplift the farming sector. As part of this massive outreach, a team of 2,170 agricultural scientists visited over 1.42 lakh villages, directly interacting with more than 1.34 crore farmers a scale unprecedented in India’s agricultural history.

Minister Chouhan announced that Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) will be designated as nodal agencies in every state to ensure seamless interaction between experts and farmers. Reaffirming his commitment, he stated that he will visit farms twice a week to maintain close contact with farmers and monitor progress on the ground.

To further strengthen coordination, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) will appoint state-wise nodal officers for agriculture. These officers will act as vital links between research institutions and state governments, ensuring scientific insights and policy responses are tailored to the unique needs of each region.

Addressing key challenges, the minister highlighted two pressing issues: the circulation of substandard seeds and the misuse of pesticides. He stressed the need to focus on improving productivity, reducing input costs, and making agriculture a profitable, stable, and resilient livelihood for farmers.

Outlining his broader vision, Minister Chouhan introduced the concept of “One Nation – One Agriculture – One Team,” a model where farmers, scientists, institutions, and policymakers collaborate seamlessly to build a developed and self-reliant agricultural ecosystem.

He also noted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership over the past 11 years, India has witnessed a 40% increase in food grain production, a testament to the government’s consistent focus on empowering farmers and modernizing agriculture
