Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on March 17 launched a mobile app for the Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme (PMIS). The introduction of the app is expected to help youngsters apply seamlessly for internships in government ministries and top-500 companies.
Help Center Launched
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have also jointly launched the first help center for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme. This centre will provide necessary information and assistance to the youth related to internship.
Last date of application extended
Earlier the last date for application for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme was March 12, which has now been extended to March 31. This will enable more youngsters to take advantage of this scheme. Interested applicants can apply by visiting the official website of PMIS.
1.27 lakh youngsters grabbed opportunity in first phase
In the first phase of the scheme, 1.27 lakh youngsters bagged the opportunity for internship. Now in the second phase, a target has been set to provide internship to more than 1.25 lakh youth. The government has approved Rs 840 crore for the pilot project of this scheme, out of which Rs 48 crore has already been spent.
Eligibility and Benefits
To be eligible for this scheme, the age of the applicant should be between 21 and 24 years. He should have passed 10th and 12th and must hold a graduate degree, ITI diploma or technical qualification.
During the internship, an individual will get a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000, as well as a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 for incidental expenses. Apart from this, insurance coverage will also be available under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
The Prime Minister Internship Scheme is a great opportunity for the youth to gain practical experience in the government and private sector.
