Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India is driving global economic growth and the Indian energy sector has a key role to play in this.
Addressing the India Energy Week 2025 at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi, the Prime Minister said, “Experts from the world over say the 21st century is India’s century. India is not only driving its country’s growth but also the world’s growth.”
Shri Modi said that in this, our energy sector has a key role to play. He said that India’s energy ambitions rest on five key pillars – resource availability we can harness, skilled workforce (our brilliant minds), economic strength, political stability, strategic geography for energy trade and a commitment to global sustainability.
The Prime Minister said that for ‘Viksit Bharat’ the next two decades are crucial. “In the next five years, we are aiming to cover several huge milestones. Our multiple energy goals are aligned with the 2030 deadline. We have a target to add 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity.”
Shri Modi further added that the Indian Railways targets Net Zero carbon emissions by 2030. “Our aim is to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030.”
He said that India’s targets could seem highly ambitious, but our accomplishments in the past decade have given us enough confidence that we will attain these targets as well.
With the theme ‘Reimagining the Future of Energy in India, for the World’, the India Energy Week 2025 is being held from the 11th to 14th February 2025 at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi.
